The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is an English language proficiency exam that assesses the speaking, writing, listening, and reading abilities of non-native English speakers. Below is an overview of the PTE Academic exam syllabus and pattern:

1. Speaking and Writing (77 – 93 minutes):

2. Reading (32 – 41 minutes):

  • Multiple-choice, choose single answer

  • Re-order paragraphs
  • Reading: Fill in the blanks
  • Reading and Writing: Fill in the blanks

3. Listening (45 – 57 minutes):

  • Summarize spoken text
  • Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Highlight correct summary
  • Multiple-choice, choose single answer
  • Select missing word
  • Highlight incorrect words
  • Write from dictation

Exam Pattern:

  • Computer-based Test: PTE Academic is a computer-based test. You'll take the test on a computer at a Pearson test center.
  • Duration: The total test duration is approximately 3 hours.
  • Scoring: PTE Academic provides a score report based on the Global Scale of English (GSE), which ranges from 10 to 90.
  • Format: The test consists of three main parts: speaking and writing, reading, and listening. Each part is further divided into various tasks.
  • Unscored Items: There may be unscored items in the test, which are used for research purposes.
  • Score Report: You'll receive your scores typically within 5 business days after taking the test.
