A2 Level German Language Syllabus
(CEFR Framework) (120 Hours)
The A2 level builds upon the A1 basics, expanding vocabulary, grammar, and conversational abilities for everyday situations.
1. Communication & Vocabulary Expansion
- Engaging in simple conversations (hobbies, work, daily routines)
- Expressing likes, dislikes, and preferences
- Making suggestions and giving advice
- Talking about past experiences and future plans
2. Grammar Topics
- Nouns & Articles: Plural forms, dative case usage
- Pronouns: Reflexive pronouns (mich, dich, sich)
- Verbs:
- Present Perfect Tense (Perfekt) (e.g., "Ich habe gegessen")
- Simple Past (Präteritum) of common verbs
- Modal verbs (können, müssen, sollen) in different tenses
- Separable and inseparable verbs (e.g., "aufstehen", "verstehen")
- Sentence Structure:
- Word order in main and subordinate clauses
- "Weil" vs. "denn" vs. "obwohl" (Cause & Contrast)
- Comparatives & Superlatives (besser, am besten)
- Negation: Using "nicht" and "kein" in complex sentences
3. Everyday Situations & Role Plays
- Ordering food in a restaurant
- Making hotel reservations
- Shopping for clothes and groceries
- Asking for and giving directions
- Talking about health and visiting a doctor
4. Writing & Reading Skills
- Writing emails, letters, and postcards
- Understanding short newspaper articles, advertisements, and brochures
- Writing simple stories and diary entries
5. Expressing Past and Future Events
- Talking about past experiences (e.g., vacations, childhood)
- Making future plans using "werden" (e.g., "Ich werde nach Berlin reisen")
- Using time expressions correctly (gestern, morgen, nächste Woche)
6. Listening & Pronunciation Practice
- Understanding simple conversations and announcements
- Recognizing different accents and speech patterns
- Practicing pronunciation of tricky sounds (ch, r, ü, ö)
7. Cultural Aspects
- German festivals (Oktoberfest, Weihnachten, Karneval)
- Daily life and traditions in German-speaking countries
- German etiquette and politeness
